Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 and 1/3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Cream 1 cup softened butter and brown sugar with mixer.
  2. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, cake flour, pecans and salt and mix until incorporated.
  3. Shape into square log, 2 inches by 2 inches. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate until firm, about 1/2 an hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheet with parchment.
  5. Slice Pecan Pie Slice-and-Bake dough into 1/4 inch-thick slices. Place on parchment, leaving space between cookies, and bake for about 12 minutes, until light golden on the edges. Remove from oven and cool on cooling rack.
  6. Melt 1/4 cup butter in small sauté pan over medium heat.
  7. Stir butter with rubber spatula until butter foams and begins to turn golden, reducing heat if necessary.
  8. Remove brown butter from heat when it is golden and let cool.
  9. Whisk together brown butter, powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and heavy cream until smooth.
  10. Transfer Brown Butter Icing to piping bag or bottle and pipe over cooled Pecan Pie Slice-and-Bake Packages to make bows.
